The final of the next T20 World Cup will be played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on November 13 next year, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said on Tuesday.
The tournament was scheduled to take place in Australia in late 2020 but was postponed for two years due to the COVID-19 epidemic.
Australia will hold on to the title at home to beat New Zealand in the final in Dubai on Sunday to win the latest edition.
The tournament will be held in seven Australian cities from 18 to 13 November next year and the semifinals will be held on 9 and 10 November at the Sydney Cricket Ground Adelaide Oval.
Brisbane, Geelong, Hobart and Perth will also host matches, where current interstate travel bans have been relaxed to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The MCG 2020 hosted the final of the Women's Twenty20 World Cup, where a new coronavirus arrived in the country and a record crowd of 86,174 to beat India in Australia.
"After the success of the ICC Women's Twenty20 World Cup in 2020 and the two-year suspension, our vision is now firmly set for the 2022 event," ICC Event President Chris Tetley said in a press release.
"Twelve teams have already been confirmed in the line-up, and we are eagerly awaiting the completion of the selection process to see if other teams will join them."
Australia, New Zealand, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, England, India, Pakistan and South Africa have already qualified for the Super 12 stage of the tournament.
Namibia, Scotland, Sri Lanka and the West Indies will take part in the opening round with four teams scheduled for next year's qualifiers in Oman and Zimbabwe.
Australia has never hosted a men's T20 World Cup before but MCG has twice been the venue for a 50-over World Cup final, most recently in 2015 when the hosts beat New Zealand in front of 93,013 fans.
