Aaron Finch has stepped down as captain of the Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League (BBL) but is determined to help Australia win the World Twenty20 title at home next year.
Finch's Australia claimed their first World Twenty20 title with a win over New Zealand in the final in Dubai on Sunday and have less than a year to prepare for the next tournament, which begins in October 2022.
On Wednesday, the 35-year-old Finch suffered knee problems after surgery in recent months but said he would retain the captaincy if he remained fit.
"If I can go there, of course," the captain told reporters on Thursday.
"I probably need a little extra time to get to my knees right now.
I made the rehabilitation really hard and probably paid a bit for it throughout the tournament. "
Renegades has confirmed that Finch resigned as captain on Thursday, with Nick Madison set to take charge of the upcoming BBL season.
Australia's World Cup win has eased pressure on head coach Justin Langer following reports of inconsistencies in the dressing room during a recent tour.
Finch said Langer received "face-to-face" feedback from players about his coaching style and took their advice on board.

"You have some really honest conversations that aren't always easy to do," Finch said.

Spinner Adam Jmpa says the players will focus on keeping the winning squad together to defend the title.
"Playing international cricket is always tough, but then it will be really hard to lose at home with some confidence," said Jampa.
