Cricket website CricketBaz reported on Tuesday that Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal has been ruled out of their two-Test series in New Zealand in January due to a thumb injury.
The report quoted Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief physician Debashish Chowdhury as saying that Tamim would need a month's rest to recover from the injury he suffered last month.
Tamim, who was ruled out of this year's Twenty20 World Cup due to a knee injury, missed Bangladesh's two-Test home series against Pakistan last week due to injury, which is set to begin on Friday.
"He has seen a doctor and they have advised him to rest for a month even though he will not need any surgery," Chowdhury told the cricketer.
In that case he is missing the New Zealand tour.
Reuters has contacted the BCB to confirm the matter.
Bangladesh is scheduled to play its first Test against New Zealand at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui from January 1 and the second Test at Hagley Oval in Christchurch from January 9.
Both Tests will be part of the teams' World Test Championship 2021-23 cycle.
