Rumana fifty fires Bangladesh Women to three-wicket win over Pakistan



Rumana Ahmed's unbeaten fifty helped Bangladesh women to a thrilling three-wicket win over Pakistan in their first qualifier for the next ICC Women's ODI World Cup.

With two balls remaining at the Old Hararians Sports Club in Harare on Sunday, Bangladesh chased down their second highest score of 202 runs.


After losing opener Murshida Khatun in the fifth over, Fergana Haque (45 off 90 balls) and Sharmin Akter (31 off 8 balls) put on a strong 80-run stand to give the Bangladesh women hope of victory.


Rumana's partner Mitu Moni (33 off 36 balls) quickly lost three wickets and Bangladesh needed 69 runs in the last 10 overs.

Salma Khatun (18 off 13 balls) then teamed up with Rumana to chase 41 runs in the last three overs.


Earlier, Nigar Sultana decided to field first and the Pakistan women were bowled out for 49 for five after their bowlers fell into the top order. Ritu and Nahida Akhter took two wickets each.


Nida Dar (87 off 111 balls) and Alia Riaz (61 off 82 balls) averaged 137 runs to take their total to 201.
