Champion West Indies believe they can bounce back from two consecutive Super 12 defeats against Bangladesh in their T20 World Cup match in Sharjah, batsman Nicholas Puran said on Thursday.The two-time champions, who won the trophy in the shortest format of the game during the final editions of the tournament in 2012 and 2016, suffered heavy losses to England and South Africa in their first two matches in Group One.
They find themselves at the bottom of the group, which also includes teams like Sri Lanka and Australia, and if only two teams reach the semifinals, another defeat will surely put them out of contention.
The same goes for the West Indies on Friday, where Bangladesh have so far lost their Super 12 matches to Sri Lanka and England.
“I definitely think it’s a good opportunity for us to bounce back,” Old told reporters. "It's another game of cricket. Anyone can win. But ... it's a game of tax or death for us. And we believe we're going to be successful tomorrow."
The West Indies, full of power-hitters, have been frustrated by the batsmen in both their matches in Dubai and the team has been bowled out for 55 against England and 143 for eight against South Africa.
Sharjah’s small border could be a welcome relief for them on Friday.
He added, "We are not sure how Sharjah will play tomorrow. But our focus is not on the small boundary, to be honest."
"We just want to improve our skills. And once we can do that, the results can take care of themselves.
"If you can accept that we weren't good in the first two games, I think as a batsman, as a team, we've already accepted that we didn't come to the party. And we're looking forward and hopefully. We can do better.
