Ashley Mallett, one of Australia's best spin bowlers, has died in Adelaide at the age of 76 after battling cancer, the Sydney Morning Herald reported on Friday.
Mallet took 132 Test wickets in 38 matches between 1968 and 1980 at an average of 29.84. He has also played nine ODIs.
Known for his teasing finger rotation, Mallett pulls out lots of bounce from the action of his upper hand to match his height.
The calm and gangling bowler, who also earned praise for his great all-fielding, was sarcastically nicknamed ‘Rowdy’ by his teammates.
After his playing career, Mallett worked as a journalist, commentator, writer and spin-bowling coach.
